"Honu Riding The Waves"

"Honu Riding The Waves"

$525.00

24x36” inch original acrylic on canvas

This painting is inspired by the green sea turtles or “honu” that flock to the shallow waters of the Hawaiian Islands. During mating season especially, green sea turtles can be seen from shore riding in the waves, their heads bobbing in and out of the water. These endangered animals are some of the most vulnerable sea creatures, not just because of human impact but by the very nature of their entrance into the world.

Sea turtle eggs are buried in the sand on the beach where their own mothers are born. Several weeks after they are laid, the eggs hatch underground and the baby turtles have to dig themselves out and make their way down the beach, into the water. Their challenges are endless and very few of the thousands of sea turtles birthed on beaches all over the world survive each year.
